Perhaps you’ve been at the store and noticed the beautiful, brightly colored bricks in our display case.  These are R&F Handmade Encaustics, and more and more people are getting interested in the possibilities of this medium.  Encaustics are a blend of damar resin, wax and pigments.  The paint is heated until it melts, at which point it can be applied to a rigid substrate, such as a wooden panel.  Because it can always be melted again after cooling, encaustic is infinitely reworkable, making it an extremely flexible medium to paint with.

From noon until 2PM on October 16th, Artist & Craftsman Supply in Pittsburgh will be presenting a free encaustic painting demo, sponsored by R&F and featuring local encaustic artist Elise Rugolo.  She will be demonstrating some basic encaustic techniques and materials, and attendees will be able to use and experiment with a variety of encaustic supplies.  We will have snacks and refreshments on hand, so please join us!

Email pit@artistcraftsman.com to let us know if you’re interested in attending, and we’ll save you a spot!
